Artist: Almagul Menlibayeva
Ideas: The change that is always taking place in history. Using the woman as the central figure because of the influence woman uphold. Trading that is taking place all of the world.
Forms of Making: Decided by the artist to push the meaning of the artworks.
Interesting: I find the most interesting that in this article it talks about polities, but yet when you walk in the Museum of the Art Institute contemporary art is a large variation which play on colors and textures.
Core Ideas: The artist being able to express the ideas they are most concerned about in the world.
Key Points of Interest: The contemporary art seems more like political art then art for arts sake. Representing many different cultures. Also, each artist is trying to make a specific statement.

I feel like performance art is based off sound or is more successful when it focuses on sound. I believe this because when you going through your daily lives you are always listening to people talking rather then the sounds around you such as running water, people walking, or your bike pedals. There are so many sounds around you that you do not focus on because you are to busy with your life and thoughts. Also, framing is a large part to performance art. By zooming in on a frame you can see things differently then you usually would. Overall, performance art pushes your brain to think outside of the box.

I feel like I really pushed myself to attempt to be a writer and completely failed. However, it was a fun experience to see what makes me feel uncomfortable when it comes to art. When I was drawing the foot with charcoal I felt relaxed and understood what I was doing. Then, I started to write the poem and all I could do was think of thoughts and did not know how put those thoughts in a poetic way. I wish I could push myself more, but I know writing is just something I do not excel at, but it is something I could try and work on.

Miwon Kwon
Valie Export: Is dressed in a large cardboard box and allows strangers on the street to feel her bare breast inside the cardboard; however, they are unable to feel them. Export goes pass boundaries to strangers going through their daily life, and evokes a reaction out of them.
-gifts
-sacrificial offerings
-interaction
relationship between the giver and the receiver
-receiver owes the giver
-sense of superiority
- one is indebt of the other
= when artist share the performance art with the world it give them the ability to rendering the audience into participation, giving the artist the upper hand in the situation.
Erwin Wurm: One Minute Sculptures
-lying on tennis ball without letting one's body touch the floor
-putting on a pair of pants over one's head as if it were a sweater
- balancing a roll of toilet paper on one's back while forwardly bent over
=photos and videos
=obligate respondents continuously
-honor or humiliation
-reject also proves a different stand on the performance art. rejection can make the art more or less successful, but either way a reaction creates the performance.
Kwon's article was talking about the artist relationship with the audience and how important their reactions are even if they decide not to participate at all. I found this article extremely interesting because performance art, to me is a very brave from of art because you have to rely on the audience so much. However, Kwon help me understand that no matter what the audience react is, it still says something about the piece you created.

Alex Ross, Searching for Silence
David Tudor did a performance were it appeared that would he being playing the piano; however, the real sound was the sounds the audience were making while waiting for the piano to play. I feel like David Tudor was successful in this performance because the audience is forced to focus on the sounds going on around them because they are growing impatience waiting for the piano. Today, people lose sight of all that interesting things going on around them because they are so focus on technology, but there is more unexpected and new things out in the world for people to learn from.

Brett- documentary.
I think Brett did a great job having the student interact with his lecture. By asking us questions were paid more attention to the documentaries and had more of interest in the explanation for what the director was trying too accomplish. I do believe that making a documentary is every time consuming and will take years to create; therefore, I am nervous about how our project will turn out. Filming is an art form I am not comfortable with, and in this documentary I am also the actor, which I have zero experience in. Just like Brett I am sure I will feel uncomfortable and the acting will be my least favorite part of the documentary.

Movie Critique
When We Were Kings
· Intense and action filled is how I would describe this film. Muhammad Ali is humorous, yet serious about his up coming fight and the audience is able to see them many sides of him. The film deserves four stars because of the action of the fight; however, you see the serious side of the player before their big match
· This film is filled with the violence of boxing, and Muhammad Ali treats this sport as if it is a joke. He rudely makes fun of his opponents, and treats everyone as they are less them him. Although he is an amazing boxer he comes off as arrogant because of his cockiness.
Crooked Arrows
· This film was an awful attempt to represent the Native American Culture. There were to many ideas going on in the film between lacrosse, Conseco, and the traditional Native American culture. Do not see this movie because you will get the wrong idea of native America culture today.
· This film was attempting to show the audience what the Native American Culture is like today; however, the film could’ve been executed differently in order to do this. The acting could be improved and the story line, but don’t let this discourage you. There are many wonderful aspects to the movie that is true to the culture.
City of God
· This is a film everyone should see because it shows the tension between the police and the gang members. However, there is a lot of violence so viewers must be prepared. Kids become criminals at a young age, which shows the audience a side of a culture most is unfamiliar with.
· The City of God is an awful movie because it is putting a gun into a child’s hand. I don’t care how horrible the town is were the children come from, but this is something that shouldn’t occur. Yes, this does happen today; however, kids are using the gun as a form of entertainment.

Alfred Gell- Art and Agency
ABDUCTION
· No such thing as the art world. There is an art world with art in it.
· Art objects as people.
· Anthropology- study of humans, past and present
· Anthropologist- why the behavior is like that.
· Don’t not contextualize in the culture context, but rather is social context
· Psychology is different because the find out things in experimental settings
· Index- smoke= fire.
· We are agents
· Objects can be social agents even though they aren’t able return the emotional of physical response. Girl with a doll because she loves it yet the doll can’t return the feeling. Adults with a car, nickname, getting emotional when the car breaks down.
· Recipient. Different kinds of art. Artists make lots of work but what happens to that work? For someone? For themselves? For the gallery? Where art can end up. What is the art for?
· Prototype. What the things represents, and the difference between what the artist is trying to represent. What does the piece visually depict itself to be, taking the work at face value.
